June 24, 2016, Baku - From June 10 to 22, during the period of preparation and holding of the Formula 1 Grand Prix of Europe in Baku, Heydar Aliyev International Airport handled over 118,000 passengers and over 640 flights.
The number of arriving passengers exceeded 41,000 people. Also 6 charter flights with 758 passengers on board were carried out.
During this period, 99 business aviation flights were carried out, which served 372 passengers.
Peak days for arrival of participants of the Formula 1 European stage were June 14 and June 16. Every day up to 6,000 passengers arrived at Heydar Aliyev International Airport.
During the race, Silk Way West Airlines, Cargolux and Nippon Cargo Airlines operated 7 charter flights and 1 part-charter flight with bolides and Formula 1 equipment. Cargo turnover amounted to over 1.6 million kg.
It should be recalled that one of the most prestigious sport events - the Formula 1 Grand Prix of Europe successfully ended in Baku. It was another success of Azerbaijan in the international sports arena.
